The IS program is recognized by the governments of France, Germany and Spain as part of their own educational system. Striving in academic excellence, the implementation of the IS program conforms to the highest standards of education found both in our system and in the national education systems of the three European countries which collaborate with Dade County Public Schools. In essence each program is a total binational experience which incorporates the strength of American School System with a European-type curriculum. The IS program offers a rigorous academic curriculum including two and a half hours of daily foreign language instruction with a native language teacher. The citizens of tomorrow are endowed with a strong academic preparation and an international perspective that promotes better understanding of other nations, cultures and languages. |
| Fifth graders travel abroad to France, Germany and Spain with teachers and parents as exchange students and are totally immersed in the language and culture they have been learning. Foreign study opportunities are sponsored by parent booster clubs.
The IS Program has an international population composed of students from more than 50 countries who speak over 20 languages at home. Student admission is based on qualifications, racial balance considerations and space availability. When the number of eligible applications exceeds the number of spaces available, a random selection process is used to admit students. Transportation will be provided according to established guidelines. Students living outside the attendance boundaries of the targeted/feeder pattern schools may apply to the IS Program with the understanding that, if accepted, transportation will NOT be provided for these students. |
