SCHOOL PROGRAMS


Home School Program

As the neighborhood school, the Home School Program serves the students who live in Sunset Elementary's district. The program serves pre-kindergartners, kindergartners, and lst through 5th grade students. It follows the district's Competency-Based Curriculum, while focusing on "The Trails Of Americana." This program brings American history to life. Through music, poetry, drama, and dance students relive our country's rich time line.


The Cluster for Emotionally Handicapped


The Cluster for Emotionally Handicapped students has been serving the needs of students since 1978. The program is designed to develop and stabilize emotional growth and meet the academic needs of each individual student. Through a behavior management system based on positive reinforcement and consistency, the students
are prepared to become part of the total school environment.

The Gifted Center

The Gifted Center at Sunset has been serving the needs of gifted children from neighboring public and private schools since 1972. This exciting program, for kindergarten through 5th grade students, enhances critical and creative thinking in the areas of communication, problem solving, research, science and technology.


Learning Disabilities/Varying Exceptionalities


The Learning Disabilities/Varying Exceptionalities classes are for students diagnosed as having difficulties in reading or mathematics to come to for assistance. One-to-one and small group instruction is provided to facilitate this. The goal is to help the student academically and to enhance their self-concept to better prepare them for mainstreaming
